The Ultimate Gin Library- 58 Gin
Distillery: Hackney Downs Studios, London
In early 2015, 58 Gin was one of the UK’s newest gin brands and it has grown widely from strength to strength. 58 Gin depicts the changing era and new wave of small scale operations trying to reach its pinnacle in the market.
Mark Marmont, an avid cocktail lover with a laboratory background is behind the success story of 58 Gin. The gin came into effect after many trials and errors and Mark carried out most of the work by himself without any assistance from others. Mark produces less than 100 bottles of gin in one instance using a tiny copper pot still in the Hackney Downs Studios located in fashionable parts of London.
Mark lived in close proximity to Tony Conigliaro’s Bar and Tony and his bar is known to be a true legend in the cocktail world. Research and experimenting required a high level of dedication and commitment and he had ventured into distilling prior to 58 was born.
The 1920-s style logo was the brainchild of a tattoo artist, Mo Coppoletta and subsequently the designers Tinder & Sparks created the finished label in the Hackney Downs Studios. It all revolves around sole entrepreneurship, birth of cocktails, hands on production and the gin is known to be produced in small quantities.
There may be differences in batches, but it is said to be refreshing, crisp and citrusy. It is amazing when paired with a touch of Noilly Prat and a sprinkle of lemon peel. In recent times the production has been expanded and developed.
It is great to sip and enjoy 58.
